Manifest [ca

The project contemporary czech art aims to present the works of contemporary Czech artists whose artistic expression may be regarded as distinctive and extraordinary to both the lay and professional public.

The project’s goal is to alleviate the conflict between the contemporary spectators and contemporary art. It requires the artists who present their works to be willing to meet the visitors on guided tours and through interviews we publish. We are going to bring the spectators a deeper understanding of the artefacts via an open discussion and based on descriptions written or spoken by a curator who is able to present art to other people in a comprehensible manner.

The gallery is intended as an intersection where different groups of people can meet. Some realise the need to approach art in a genuine and unbiased manner, while the others are willing enough to view the results of the creative process without being burdened by the present-day visual dogmas.

This is a non-profit project, which is to protect it from any unwelcome commercial influence. However, as we put together this manifesto, we must admit that the viability of the project depends primarily on the founder and his possibilities.

Layout

The contemporary czech art exhibitions are situated on the top floor of the building of a former production plant not far from the Šumperk railway station. Currently there is not a year-round exhibition plan for contemporary Czech art; the project is implemented seasonally.

The exhibition premises have two main rooms, four smaller rooms are backstage and serve as a depository. Two of the rooms may be used for video art projections. Unlike the large rooms, they can be darkened and there is access to electricity. There is no wi-fi connection in the premises.

How works [ca

01

The first step is the selection of an author and the time of the exhibition. We endeavour to give both parties sufficient time for preparation. The curator plays an important role. If the artist has no one to curate their exhibition, we suggest a suitable person based on agreement with the artist. The curator makes a selection of the artist’s works, prepares the texts for the exhibition, for the catalogue and/or the media, and supervises the installation of the exhibition. The curator can also help the author with the guided tours.

02

Presentation on digital platforms is indispensable in activities of contemporary czech art. For every exhibition we prepare a video interview of the artist, a virtual tour, a poster and a bilingual catalogue with photos of the works and the installation accompanied by texts. We do the distribution of the posters, printing, typography, photos and shooting ourselves. You can prepare your own translations but we can provide translations as well. We help the artists with raising funds to pay for those services.

03

We understand the importance of educational activities and creating the necessary awareness regarding art. Therefore we are delighted to invite curators, theorists of art and patrons to all our events where they can meet the artists in person. Thus we endeavour to support both the Czech art scene and the individuals who are part of it.

We would like to contribute to a better coverage of the contemporary art in media and to a better understanding of art.
